WHAT?

A customized smart healthcare monitoring and treatment device for young children suffering from respiratory conditions like Asthma and Cystic Fibrosis, etc.
Thesis Project with Havells

WHO?

For young children suffering from respiratory conditions from ages 4-9, though suitable for individuals of all age groups as they grow older

WHY?

Most healthcare products for kids lack mental aspect of the patient, more specifically, they lack of empathy while designing tools for monitoring and managing healthcare for kids.

It is hard to provide treatment and monitor health in young children who are get easily fussy and as they grow older
they get more ashamed of any proof illness such as any medical equipmentinvolved.

KEY INSIGHTS - OVERALL RESEARCH

There are numerous young children suffering from chronic respiratory illnesses that requires the use of medical equipments such as

  • Nebulizer for treatment

  • Peakflow meter for measuring the ability to push air out of your lungs

  • Spirometry for pulmonary function or breathing test

  • Incentive spirometer as an exercise equipment for the lungs to keep them strong and working well.

Most of the above medical equipment can seem scary to a young child and are n't designed keeping their mental perspective in mind.

Almost all young children are either afraid of ashamed when asked to use the medical equipment if it helps them breathe and monitor their lungs.

Majority Healthcare professionals agree that medical healthcare equipment for treatment and monitoring can be better designed for children to increase patient compliancy

We can find ways to positively distract a child to using a playful interaction with said equipment. Power of play - positive distraction - increased compliancy

IDEATION OF CONCEPT

(Tap each box to read more on the Devices)

Nebulizer is a treatment device turn liquid medicine into a mist so that kids can breathe it in.

A peak flow meter is a portable, hand-held device that measures your ability to push air out of your lungs. Air flow is measured by the amount of air that you can blow out in one "fast blast."

Spirometry is the most common type of pulmonary function or breathing test. This test measures how much air you can breathe in and out of your lungs, as well as how easily and fast you can the blow the air out of your lungs.

An incentive spirometer is a hand-held device that helps people to take slow, deep breaths. It's like exercise equipment for the lungs to keep them strong and working well.
